Tammy Edwards{ Family information: Husband, Will; 2 daughters, 1 son-in-law, 5 grandsons, 2 cats. Will also counts the 2 (at least) armadillos as pets. { What does your gardening background or experience consist of? ? I have always loved being outside. When I was growing up, we always had a very large vegetable garden. Tomatoes straight off the vine and eaten in the garden were my favorite. I’ve given up on trying to raise tomatoes; the deer always get to them before I do. { How did you discover the Tarrant County Master Gardener Association I became a MG in 2002. Jim Brady, who was a MG at the time, came to look at our garden after his wife kept telling him about a garden she had visited on her daily walk around the neighborhood. When Jim saw the garden, he just kept saying, “This is in Azle, TX?” I felt quite honored when he told me about Master Gardeners and could not wait to join. { How many years have you been a Master Gardener? Since 2002 { What do you like best about being a Master Gardener? I love people so it has to be all of the wonderful people in the organization. I also like the fact that we are exposed to so many opportunities to share gardening with others. { What positions, if any, have you held in the Master Gardener Association? I am currently the treasurer, help with the newsletter, and I am a state alternate. In the past, I have also been a timekeeper. { What is your biggest gardening mistake? Even though I know better, I still plant plants where I would like them to grow. I sometimes plant sun plants in the shade and shade plants in the sun or Indiana plants in Texas. (I have managed to train myself to do this only with cheap or free plants.) { What is something others might not know about you? Actually, I’ll share two things: When Will and I travel, I choose hotels based on their gardens or gardens that are nearby. I assume if the garden is nice, the hotel can’t be that bad. It hasn’t failed me yet. The other is I belong to a “Book Club” with about 15 other women. The quotes are because we only have a book about half of the time and half of the members don’t bother reading the book. We mostly enjoy each other’s company. Our book club has been to Mexico, Bahamas, Italy, and Oklahoma; next year we are going to Paris (France not Texas) for a week.
